CSD currently runs two active projects in close partnership with the University of Olso ( UiO) and National University of Malawi and working on other new projects with partners from Norway, Canada, USA, Denmark , The Netherlands, South Africa , Kenya , Somalia and Uganda . Governance for Sustainable Development Goals (SustGOV) is a six-year collaborative NORHED project among Addis Ababa University, University of Oslo, and the University of Malawi. The project dwells, in particular on SDG 16 – which promotes effective and accountable governance that promotes inclusive institutions – as a foundational condition and a key “enabler” for all SDGs. Besides SDG 16, SustGOV focuses on SDG 17 that advocates for policy coherence and global partnerships development. SustGOV aims at influencing public policy and building and further strengthening research, educational and administrative capacity in Ethiopia and Malawi through an interrelated set of activities. SustGOV is implemented from 2021-2027.
ARUA-Guild is a 10 years collaborative research project implemented by the University of Oslo, University of Pretoria , Addis Ababa University, University of Nairobi, Université catholique de Louvain and University of Malawi . The project aims to develop new innovative research and PhD programs on leadership for sustainable social transformation which aimed at strengthening capacity for achieving sustainable development. A major outcome will be to strengthen the science-policy interface required for societal transformation and ensure long-term sustainability. The project intends to develop a community of policymakers, doctoral students, and early career scholars equipped with interdisciplinary knowledge. A key goal of the project is to train at least 40 PhD students at participating universities in Africa over 10 years. Another key goal is to apply evidence-based research findings to influence national and regional policies on climate and sustainable development in Africa and Europe.
